Manjeev Singh Puri

Manjeev Singh Puri assumed charge as Ambassador of India to Nepal on March 25, 2017. He presented his credentials to the Right Honourable President of Nepal on March 26, 2017.

Prior to Kathmandu, he was Ambassador of India in Brussels from 2014-2017, accredited to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg. Earlier he had served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN in New York from 2009 to 2013. He was a senior member of India's Security Council team during the years 2011-2012, when India served on the Security Council.

Puri is a member of the Indian Foreign Service, having joined the service in 1982. In the course of his Foreign Service career, apart from Brussels and New York, he has served twice in Germany (in Bonn and Berlin), in Cape Town, Muscat, Bangkok and Caracas. In Delhi, he has served as Joint Secretary (UN- Economic & Social) and Deputy Chief of Protocol.

He was closely involved with India's participation in the G8-G5 Summits from 2005 and led the Indian delegation for the first meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development in Brussels in July 2007 and the presentation of various reports by India at the Human Rights Council.

Major areas of his interest are climate change and sustainable development. He was a lead negotiator in India's delegation for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012. He was also a key member of India's delegation at various Climate Change negotiations, including the Major Economies Forum and the Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC in Copenhagen in December 2009.He is on the Advisory Board of TERI in his personal capacity.

He has a Masters degree in Management and did his BA (Honours) in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi.
